August 18, 1863: Rosecrans moves his headquarters

William Rosecrans

Rosecrans, concentrating his troops for an assault on Chattanooga, moves his own headquarters to Stevenson in the northeast corner of Alabama. Everything is starting to close in on Chickamauga Creek.

My headquarters moved to-day to Stevenson, Ala. The commands all moving well; better to-day than yesterday.
