September 27, 1862: Hang onto those dispatches!

Henry Halleck

Remember those dispatches Halleck sent for Buell? The ones Colonel McKibbin was not to deliver if Buell won a battle, or if George Thomas wasn’t around? Halleck tells McKibbin to hold off delivering them.

Official Record:

WASHINGTON, D. C., September 27, 1862.
Colonel J. C. McKIBBIN, Cincinnati:

Dispatches will not be delivered till further orders.*

H. W. HALLECK,
General-in-Chief.
